i just went down a rabbithole of GNU's dictionary database stuff. in my opinion they should've used a more human-readable database format. literally anything would be better than inventing their own specific markup for storing their dictionary wtf. gnu, ever heard of a .... plain text file? they are pretty cool.
anyways, my other takeaway seems to be that dictionary servers are under-maintained and too centralized.
